Confirmation/First Communion

for teens in 7th Grade through 12 grade

The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation in to the Catholic Church and the fulfillment of the Sacrament of Baptism. Our 2-year program seeks to prepare Catholic teens for the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Communion through teachings, faith sharing, service and fellowship. It is important for those who wish to be Confirmed to be aware of and knowledgeable about the faith they are preparing to practice throughout their lives. 

Requirements 1st Year

  1. Register for Confirmation

  2. Submit payment

  3. Complete 2-5 Service Projects

  4. Attend biweekly class

  5. Attend weekly Sunday Mass

Requirements 2nd Year

  1. Register for 2nd year confirmation

  2. Submit Payment

  3. Attend Sponsor Meeting

  4. Attend Confirmation Retreat

  5. Attend weekly class

  6. Attend weekly Sunday Mass

  7. Pick a Sponsor

  8. Complete 2-5 Service Projects

Requirements for Confirmation 

To be a qualified candidate and to register for the two-year confirmation program, students must: 

  • Have received the Sacrament of Baptism

  • Provide a Baptismal Certificate

  • If your child is not yet baptized they will enroll in RCIA Adapted for teens which also meets twice a month.

  • Be in at least 7th grade at the beginning of the new school year

  • Fill out all required registration forms

  • Leave at least a $50 deposit (non-refundable) from the total registration fee.

Register for Confirmation 

Please register online for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. We also are available Monday to Thursday 9:00AM to 5:00PM in the YM Office to process your registration.

Submit Payment

The fees are as follows: 

  • First Year: $110

  • Second Year $125

  • First Communion & Confirmation for First or Second Year $135

A $50 deposit (non refundable) is required upon registration. 

Complete 5 Service Projects

All candidates for confirmation must complete 5 service projects. Opportunities to serve will be organized by the Youth Ministry Department. 

Attend a Sponsor meeting

Every 2nd year confirmation candidate must attend the Sponsor meeting with his/her sponsor. More information about Sponsor Day will be shared during the program. 

Attend biWeekly Class

Candidates are expected to attend each weekly session and are allowed no more than 2 excused absences. Calendars will be sent to families at the beginning of the program year. 

Attend Confirmation Retreat

Candidates must attend a retreat during their 2nd year in order to be confirmed. The retreat provides opportunities to deepen the relationships that candidates have with one another and with God. If the candidate cannot attend the Mary Immaculate Retreat, he/she must attend a Confirmation retreat at another parish. 

Attend Weekly Mass

Candidates are expected to attend Mass every Sunday. Attending Mass every Sunday is a part of practicing our Catholic faith, it provides the opportunity to be involved in the Church community, and it is the place where we receive the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist. 

Choose a saint

Candidates must select a saint whose name they will take at his/her confirmation. Your confirmation saint should be someone you feel connected to; he/she is meant to be a role model of holiness and is someone to intercede for you in Heaven. 

Pick a Sponsor

All 2nd year students will have to pick a sponsor for his/her confirmation. Sponsors must be considered qualified. A qualified sponsor is: 

  • At least 16 years of age

  • A practicing Catholic who has been confirmed and who has already received the Sacrament of First Communion

  • If the sponsor is married, he/she must have been married in the Catholic Church

  • Not a father, mother, or step-parent of the candidate

Behavioral Policies 

Every candidate and teacher deserves to have a safe and distraction-free environment. All participants and leaders deserve respect and an opportunity to grow closer to God through the Confirmation program. To make sure that happens, the following will NOT be tolerated: 

  • Destroying or defacing materials or any items on Church grounds (tagging, breaking lights/windows, etc)

  • Defiance, rudeness, or disrespect towards teachers, volunteers or classmates

  • The use of electronic equipment at any time unless allowed by teacher

  • Illicit, non-prescription drugs, or alcohol use

  • Use of profanity or any other harassing, threatening, or insulting language

1st Offense: teacher warning

2nd Offense: meeting with confirmation coordinator 

3rd Offense: expulsion from Confirmation program 

Please note that expulsion may occur before 3rd offense if warranted.
