The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. The CDA motto is “Unity and Charity.” It was founded in 1903 by the Knights of Columbus and today numbers 75,000 dues-paying members in 1,250 courts (local chapters) in 45 states across the country, and in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands.
Our local court, “Court Our Lady” has been at Mary Immaculate since 1991. We have undertaken many projects through the years. We have had various fundraisers and the proceeds go to our local project or charity and a percentage goes to National and State organizations.
Currently we are collecting items for gift boxes to be sent to Operation Gratitude to be sent to deployed soldiers overseas.
As an ongoing project we are collecting, cutting and sending grocery store coupons to Ft Hood for the military families to use in the commissary.
We have made several trips to Ronald McDonald House to prepare lunch and serve volunteers and parents in residence there.
We have collected and delivered food, diapers and clothing to Our Lady of Guadalupe Women’s Shelter, Mother Theresa’s order.
Our court gave $1,000 to the holy water font at the entrance of the school.
The court has given three of our seminarians, Edwin Leonard, Ivan Asencio and Edward Penada, $1,000 each toward their education.
On the National level CDA supports five Projects: The Disaster Relief Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Holy Cross, Smile Train and Soar. And also nine National Charities: North American College, Morality in Media, Catholic Relief Services, Apostleship of the Sea, Covenant House, Mother Theresa, Tutwiler Clinic and Labourne Society. The Texas State Court Projects are: Cameron Park Colonia, Gifts for the Unborn, Casa Juan Diego, Our Lady of Guadalupe Women’s Shelter, Clinica Guadalupana and Annunciation Maternity Home. (See below for link to Texas website)
